TiLT: With a Heart Full of Mess and Lore

Hey! If you still haven’t gotten all your presents for the holidays, don’t forget to check out my gift-giving guide for some ideas.

Things I’m Loving This Thursday…

from here

Tomorrow being the last day of the semester. I still have to work throughout most of my break, but the important part is, after my two finals tomorrow, I am finished with Fall Semester 2010. Victory!

Christmas bells are riiiiinging.

Finally picking up my UUBC shirt. The Unitarian Universalist group here at Berry recently had some T-shirts made, and I was super-happy to finally get mine yesterday.

Mixed CDs. Making, receiving…mixed CDs make life better.

Going out for dinner and exchanging Christmas gifts with friends.

Also, celebratory sparkling grape juice with said friends, complete with colored wineglasses. ‘Cause we are cool kids, yo.

Being excited about the upcoming Christmas dinner and White Elephant exchange with MORE friends back home. I love my Berry friends, but there is a lot to be said for the people I’ve stayed close to from my hometown. They are my loves absolutely.

Working on gifts. I adore giving/buying/making presents.

Listening to fabulous music while I write this.

Seeing Alex tomorrow. Because Alex time = good conversation.

Getting to hang at my favorite professor’s place.

Seeing all the kids at work dressed in their holiday clothes. It’s hard to believe they can look cuter than they do in that photo, huh? They can!

Getting ideas for new blog entries. Finals week is almost over, and then I can go back to having a brain when I sit down at my computer rather than a head full of mush and Biology. Speaking of…

The fact that I’ll never have to take another Bio class ever again for the rest of my liiiife.

Having a free day today. No finals. No work. Let’s forget that there’s still lots of cleaning and studying to do.

Our special reindeer friend who is smiling cheerfully at me with his crooked face every time I step into my hall. Anna and I have a friend here for Christmas! He is deformed. We love him dearly.

And now, dear reader, what are you loving this Thursday?

TiLT: Walk My Way

Things I’m Loving This Thursday…

from here

Knowing that it’s almost Fall Break.

Listen. No, we still aren’t official, and the day we could be appears to rest far, far in the future, but there are more things we can do than I originally realized. We’re holding a candlelight vigil for the six GLBTQ youths who have recently committed suicide on October 20th, and while the fact that this happened is terrible, the fact that we will be allowed to recognize it is not. Ideally, the day before the vigil will be used for speaking out for those who can’t speak for themselves anymore. We also plan to participate in the It Gets Better project. It feel so good to be doing something.

Talking with Geoff about our Unitarian Universalist Group finally getting the acceptance it deserves. Hearing about it was good enough, but hearing about it from him and seeing the expression on his face was even better. I can hardly wait for our next meeting.

Spending Thursday night with friends. I can’t really imagine much else I’d rather be doing than hanging with Alex and Kyley.

Jamming to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros as I write this.

♥ Mountain Day Weekend.
It was pretty fun this year, and I definitely enjoyed spending time with my mom and brother. (Even if Kyley and I appear horrified to be trapped inside the Berry Bubble, it isn’t always so bad.)

Seeing things I love from the perspective of someone new to them. I could probably rewrite this as “Watching Alex discover RENT and appreciate Berry’s gorgeous campus”.

New blogs. That would include Escaping the Box, a blog I’ll be co-authoring with Alex and another friend from our hometown, and the restarting (again! haha!) of Alex’s personal blog, this time called A Pundit in Progress.

Alex. He has so much to do with stuff this week, he might as well get his own damn heart.

My roommate. While we’re talking about awesome people, Anna doesn’t get enough recognition. You guys, my roommate is incredible. For serious.

Getting my lab exam and World History midterm out of the way. So much stress. So glad they’re over.

Random lyric snippets that get stuck in my head.

What are you loving this Thursday? (:

TiLT: Caught Them Barking at the Moon

Fair warning: The audio is pretty quiet (the music at the beginning is actually louder than the talking), so you might have to turn your volume up a bit or wear headphones.

As promised, here are the music videos! (:

We’re starting with Florence + The Machine because Florence is amazing. Hands down. It was so hard to choose a song because everything she does is incredible. I’m not crazy about her music videos, though…too distracting. I’d rather just sit with my eyes closed and listen.

A danceable, upbeat song…about the Holocaust. Yeah. (If you aren’t horrified by songs about this subject matter, I’d also try Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Holland, 1945”.)

We’ll end with this one:

Annnd that’s what real music feels like. You’re welcome. 😀

TiLT: I Still Believe in Summer Days

Things I’m Loving This Thursday…

all pictures in this article from here

Snow again! Actually, here, we mostly had slush on the ground…but the snow falling down was lovely, and it was fun to see everyone walking around with their umbrellas in the snow instead of in the rain. Speaking of umbrellas…

The guy on campus with the rainbow umbrella. I don’t know your name, sir, but you are adorable.

My Orientation to Psychology class ending. I have so much time to get things finished on Mondays and Tuesdays now!

I can has grapes? Yes, I can. Mmmmm.

Etsy. So I haven’t official purchased anything from Etsy, and I don’t know that I will, but looking around on it makes me happy and gives me ideas for things I can make myself.

Owls. For some reason, I’ve been surrounded by owls lately. Owls on Etsy, owl necklaces, my favorite curly-haired boy drawing owl pictures at work, and even my own owl slippers. “Owls, everyone is fond of owls….”

♥ Getting closer to meeting the Baby GOOs. I like all the people on my scholarship for different reasons, and despite some minor personality conflicts, we work well together. I’m excited to meet all the new GOOs coming in and hoping they fit right into the picture and have as much luck with each other as we had.

Flowers. I got these beautiful flowers for Valentines, and though a lot of them are closer to dead than alive at this point, they still make me smile. I’m probably going to hang some of them up to dry and keep.

Movies that are coming out soon. It’s true. I, like almost every other female my age, want to see Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Siiiigh.

Certain articles in the Campus Carrier. Articles on behalf of Listen and the UU group on campus? Thank you!

♥ Ending the day on a happy note. Without going into a lot of detail, I’m going to say that I had a very, very bad morning, bad enough that I almost cried in front of a friend. Anyone who knows me well knows that I pretty much don’t cry in front of people under any circumstance. So. Yeah. Bad. But the point is not that my morning sucked; the point is that things got better. I’ve smiled since then. I’ve laughed. I’ve eaten a truffle and gotten really excited about learning things in French. No matter how bad things seem to be, we can always get through them, and that’s something I’m really loving this Thursday.

TiLT: Beautiful Things Can Come From the Dark

Things I’m Loving This Thursday…

(can’t remember the photographer! will find out)

♥ The fact that Thursday means this week is almost over. These past three days have been rather testy for me, so I’m ready to start my weekend and come back refreshed. Almost there!

Throwing apples as a stress reliever.

♥ Meeting the Psych professors at my college. This week, my Orientation to Psychology class has consisted of having professors come in, introduce themselves, their expertise, and their interests, and answer whatever questions we may have. Everyone we’ve met so far has been pretty much incredible. I love my department. 🙂

♥ Being able to write again. I’ve been stuck for words lately when I’ve really needed to write from an emotional standpoint, so I’m happy that I finally seem to be breaking out of that.

♥ Warmer weather.

♥ Last weekend. I had an excellent dinner and conversation with a friend, then went to another friend’s house with a group of people I love very much. We watched Disney movies, had more good conversations, and attempted to record our singing together….which was fun, despite the fact that we never got a good-quality recording. Next time!

photo by David Slade (in front of our building of financial doom, no less)

♥ Coming back on campus to meet an army of melting snowmen.

♥ Setting up an interview time at my hopeful place of employment next year. I worry that I’ll be considered too liberal for my college to put me in this particular position, but I was honest on my application and I will be honest in my interview. I’m hoping that they’ll see that I genuinely care about the issues I’ve mentioned and about people and also that I’m trying hard to do the right thing, not just push my own agenda…and they’ll hire me. Keeping my fingers crossed!

♥ My new writing journal. I can’t help it, okay? I’m addicted to journals. D:

♥ My ankle feeling better after I twisted it last Tuesday…and again on Sunday!

♥ Having dress clothes. I just feel more prepared now. I had next to nothing in that regard when I came here, and now I’m ready for fieldwork and interviews and maaaaybe even semi-formals. …But probably not. XP

♥ Getting writing comments/critiques. I love it when people take time to point out what’s wrong with my writing in a non-rude way. It means that a) they aren’t just skimming through it and saying “good job! love it!” to be nice and b) they care about what I care about, which is working to make the writers out there even better. That said, I also love getting comments like, say, this one:

“i agree with the other reviewers. your words are so powerful and delicate.

the story itself shows everything and could easily be the most memorable thing i have ever read.”

This was so beautiful. I’m sitting here in my English class and the teacher is talking, yet I’m sitting on this laptop and reading, like my eyes can’t be torn away from this. I want to cry after reading this, like I’m overflowing with emotion or something. I loved the last line the best.

I’m still in shock.”

Touching people is exactly what I want to do through my writing, so to hear that I have is all I can ask for. More than I can ask for.

♥ Seeing two of my friends start their own TiLTs! This is probably one of my favorite things this week, since I really believe in the idea of practicing gratitude and looking for the little joys in your life, and all of us have a hard time doing that at some point. I can only imagine how happy Gala, the original creator of TiLT, feels watching more and more people add their positivity to the mix each week.

You know the drill…what are you loving this Thursday? (:

TiLT: There’s Nothing Here to Run From (We Live in a Beautiful World)

Things I’m Loving This Thursday…

from here

♥ Watching the realm of possibility peel open like a flower. Last week, I said that I was excited to finally be finding some purpose on campus. Since then, that purpose has absolutely exploded. I can’t say too much yet, especially since I don’t know if it’s going to work out exactly how I’d like…but it looks very, very good, even so. This is the most exhilarated and motivated I’ve felt in a long time.

♥ The term “Two Thousand and Amen”. I think it will be quite befitting of 2010.

♥ Hints from the Universe that say, “Yes, do THAT!”.

♥ The rainbow after the rain.

♥ Dressing extra-warm and not letting the weather bother me. That’s right. T-shirt over a long-sleeved shirt, big reversible coat (turned on the bright pink side today!), striped gloves, and pajama pants under jeans. I was ready. Bring it on, weather!

♥ Rodeo chicken sandwiches. I don’t even know why I like these things so much, but, hey. It makes me happy.

♥ Good conversations, even if they are at ungodly hours of the morning.

♥ Knowing that I have a job this summer and feeling very, very blessed that my supervisor worked with me on that regard.

♥ Dancing with the kids at work. If you’ve never made a fool of yourself with four-year-olds, you better hop to it. There isn’t much better out there than that.

♥ Getting involved with clubs again…

♥ …and especially getting involved with Unitarian Universalism. FINALLY! It only took, what, six years of knowing about UU? And now a lot of work is going to have to happen in order to make the UU group on campus take off and last, but I’m totally up for it.

♥ Hearing, “I came to this meeting because I remembered that really interesting speech you made in class about UU!”. Dear person who said this, you made my day. You don’t even know.

♥ TWLOHA Day being tomorrow. TWLOHA (To Write Love On Her Arms) helps people struggling with depression and self-injury. Tomorrow is a day to write love on YOUR arms and show support. A simple Google search will bring up all you need to know.

♥ Making cheese dip.

♥ Weekend plans (again). I’m not even gonna lie—all my plans for this weekend, assuming they work out, are completely kickass. I’m so excited.

from here

♥ Being ready to fight for what I believe in.

♥ Growing as a person.

♥ Having lots of new blog ideas. You’ll be seeing these soon, I’m sure.

As always, you’re invited to comment with the things that made your week!
